Trump and Putin Hold 3-Hour Alaska Summit, No Deal on Ukraine
Light House Denver – Trump and Putin ended their Alaska summit on Friday (Aug 15) without any concrete peace agreement on Ukraine. The dialogue between the two leaders lasted three hours but produced no breakthrough in efforts to end the war that has continued since 2022.
The historic Alaska Summit took place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, marking the first time Putin was allowed to set foot in Western territory since launching the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Trump, who often calls himself a “master deal-maker,” rolled out the red carpet for Putin, underscoring the symbolism of attempting to rebuild relations between the two nations.

Following the talks, Trump and Putin held a joint press conference that lasted only 12 minutes. They delivered warm statements but took no questions, a highly unusual move for Trump, who is typically more open with the media.
“We are not there yet, but we have made progress. There is no deal until there is a deal,” Trump said, speaking in front of a modest backdrop with the words “Pursuing Peace.” He emphasized that the talks were “very productive” with “many points” of understanding, though he declined to provide specifics.
Putin, speaking at the same event, described the discussions as constructive. “We hope the understandings we have reached will pave the way for peace in Ukraine,” he said. However, he also avoided detailing what those understandings were.
When Trump mentioned the possibility of a follow-up meeting, Putin responded with a slight smile and said in English: “Next time in Moscow.”
Although described as “productive,” the meeting yielded no tangible results. There were no announcements of a ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, or broader negotiation mechanisms. For many observers, the summit served more as a political signal that both countries are willing to keep the door to diplomacy open, even as the path to peace remains long and uncertain.
