Cha Eun-woo Begins Military Service, Fulfills National Duty
Light House Denver – South Korean actor and singer Cha Eun-woo officially began his mandatory military service on Monday, July 29, 2025. The 28-year-old star, widely known as a member of the K-pop boy group ASTRO, will serve as part of the South Korean Army’s brass band. According to his agency, Fantagio, he will first undergo five weeks of basic military training before joining the unit.
The night before his enlistment, Cha Eun-woo took a moment to connect with fans through a live broadcast on YouTube. He appeared calm but admitted to feeling a mix of emotions as the reality of enlistment set in.
“It still feels like a dream,” he said. He also commented on his new, closely cropped hairstyle. “This is the shortest haircut I’ve had since I was a toddler,” he added with a smile.
Although the decision to temporarily step away from the entertainment industry wasn’t easy, Cha reassured his fans that he would do his best during his service. “I’ll return safe and healthy. I hope all of you stay happy and well too,” he said sincerely.
Under South Korean law, all physically healthy men aged 18 to 28 must serve in the military for 18 to 21 months. This rule applies even to K-pop idols, regardless of their immense contributions to the country’s economy and global image.
Only a select few receive exemptions, such as athletes who win gold medals at international competitions or classical musicians and ballet dancers who win top prizes in globally recognized art contests. For most celebrities, including Cha Eun-woo, military service remains a civic duty that cannot be avoided.
Following the official announcement of his enlistment, fans from around the world flooded social media with messages of encouragement and love. Hashtags like #WeWillWaitForYouChaEunwoo and #SafeReturnEunwoo trended across several Asian countries.
Supporters pledged to wait patiently for his return and expressed excitement for his future projects. Many believe that his military experience will bring new depth and maturity to his acting and music career.
Cha Eun-woo’s temporary departure marks a brief pause in a career that has been on a steady rise. However, both fans and industry peers remain confident that he will return with renewed energy, perspective, and inspiration.
His time in the military is expected to not only shape him as a person but also enrich his artistry. Until then, fans around the world will continue to cheer him on from afar.
Best of luck in your service, Cha Eun-woo. We look forward to your safe return!
