Siemens Executive Dies in Helicopter Crash in New York, USA
Light House Denver – Siemens executive Agustin Escobar was among the victims of a helicopter crash that occurred over the Hudson River, between Manhattan, New YorK. The heartbreaking incident took place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m. local time.
Escobar was widely regarded as a leading figure in the energy and transportation sectors. Since 2019, he had served as the CEO of Siemens Mobility Southwest Europe. He also held the position of Vice President of the German Chamber of Commerce in Spain. Throughout his career, he held several key leadership roles, including CEO of the Energy Management Division in Latin America and Director of Strategy in North America.

Escobar was a graduate of Industrial Engineering from Pontificia Comillas University in Madrid. He had over 25 years of international experience, holding leadership roles across Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
The tragedy not only claimed Escobar’s life but also those of his wife and their three children, all of whom were of school age. According to reports, the family had been vacationing in New York from their home in Barcelona. All six passengers aboard the helicopter were confirmed dead—four at the scene and two after being transported to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses described the horrifying moment the helicopter “broke apart mid-air,” with its tail and rotor detaching before it plummeted into the water. Personal items such as children’s sneakers, helicopter seats, and a wallet were seen floating near the crash site.
Although the weather was cloudy, visibility around the river was reportedly still adequate. The FAA identified the aircraft as a Bell 206, a widely used model for commercial and civilian flights. The NTSB has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
This incident adds to a growing list of aviation accidents in the busy airspace over New York City. In recent years, several similar tragedies have raised public concerns about air safety in densely populated urban areas.
