Light House Denver – The Labubu doll is no longer just a toy, it has become a coveted, high-value, limited-edition collectible investment. This was proven by the extraordinary sale of a life-sized Labubu doll at an auction in Beijing, fetching a staggering price in the billions of rupiah.
A prestigious auction house in Beijing, Yongle International Auction, successfully sold a human-sized Labubu figure for a remarkable 1.08 million yuan (approximately IDR 2.4 billion) on Tuesday (June 10).
This auction marked the first time Yongle included a collectible figure like Labubu in its offerings, typically, the house focuses on modern art and fine jewelry. The public’s strong interest in this unique character contributed to the auction’s resounding success.

The auction featured 48 lots, all starting from a base price of zero yuan. By the end of the event, total sales had reached 3.73 million yuan, or about IDR 8.4 billion.
The most sought-after piece was a mint green Labubu figure standing 131 cm tall, which drew intense bidding before ultimately selling at the highest price of the event. According to the auctioneer, this life-sized version is a one-of-a-kind item.
Another highlight was the “Three Wise Labubu” set, three PVC figurines each standing about 40 cm tall. The set sold for 510,000 yuan (approximately IDR 1.1 billion).
The manufacturer produced only 120 of these exclusive sets in 2017. Sotheby’s Hong Kong previously sold one set at auction for HKD 203,200 (around IDR 421 million).
Hong Kong-based illustrator Kasing Lung created Labubu about a decade ago. In 2019, Lung partnered with Chinese toy company Pop Mart, known for its blind box marketing strategy that made collectible figurines a booming trend.
With its quirky, slightly “monster-like” appearance, Labubu quickly gained popularity among pop culture enthusiasts and serious collectors alike.
Labubu’s popularity skyrocketed after Lisa of BLACKPINK carried one and openly praised it in interviews and online posts. Her influence sparked a wave of interest from fans and collectors worldwide.
In May, English football star David Beckham posted a photo on Instagram showing his Labubu attached to a bag, further cementing Labubu’s status as a global pop culture icon.
The staggering auction prices clearly show that Labubu has evolved from a simple toy into a prestigious collectible. Its visual appeal, rarity, and endorsement from global celebrities continue to elevate its value and desirability in the collector’s market.
