Fantastic! 99% of Coldplay's Seoul Fans Return LED Wristbands
Light House Denver – Coldplay’s Seoul fans set an extraordinary record during the band’s Music of the Spheres tour, making an impact on the international stage. As of Thursday (April 25, 2025), an impressive 99% of concertgoers in South Korea returned their LED wristbands (Xylobands) after the performance, marking the highest percentage in the history of this global tour by the British band.
Coldplay performed six times in Seoul since April 16, with an estimated 50,000 attendees per concert. The LED wristbands, distributed to attendees, are made from eco-friendly materials. They light up in sync with the rhythm of the songs during the show. Afterward, these wristbands were collected for recycling as part of Coldplay’s commitment to sustainability.
Coldplay encouraged fans to support this green initiative by displaying the wristband return data from each city live on the concert screens. Initially, cities like Tokyo, Helsinki, and Hong Kong led with a 97% return rate. However, Seoul gradually caught up: 96% at the first concert, 98% at the second, and finally breaking the world record with 99% at the last concert.

This moment was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience, including Lee, a fan who attended. “When the 99% appeared on the screen, everyone cheered. After the concert, everyone was talking about how important it was to return the wristbands,” he said, as quoted by Korea Times.
Coldplay’s Seoul fans’ success became a hot topic on social media, with many netizens sharing funny comments, even from Indonesia. “It’s the 1% of Indonesians who were watching,” wrote one X user, adding a laughing emoji.
In addition, the Coldplay concert was also colored with political humor. Lead vocalist Chris Martin joked, “Every time Coldplay comes to Korea, there is no president.” He was referring to the recent impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, which occurred shortly before the concert.
In comparison, Coldplay’s concert in Jakarta in 2023 only recorded a 77% wristband return rate. Many attendees chose to keep the wristbands as souvenirs, despite the concert’s recycling spirit.
This phenomenon highlights cultural differences in concert behavior. It also presents a unique challenge for environmental sustainability efforts in the entertainment world.
