Blackmores Supplement Allegedly Triggers Nerve Damage, Here's the Company's Response
Light House Denver – Australian health supplement company Blackmores has responded to allegations that its products contain excessive levels of vitamin B6. The high levels of this vitamin may lead to nerve damage or neuropathy. The case has sparked public concern over the safety of over-the-counter supplements.
In an official statement, Blackmores emphasized that all of its products are formulated in accordance with the regulations of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia’s regulatory body for medicines and supplements.
“Blackmores is committed to the highest standards of quality and consumer safety. Our products comply with all daily dosage limits and mandatory warning labels required by the TGA,” said a company spokesperson, as quoted by News.com.au.

The statement came in response to a preliminary report by the TGA, which highlighted the lack of a global consensus on a safe upper limit for vitamin B6 intake. The TGA has recommended that any product containing more than 50 mg of vitamin B6 per day be reclassified as a pharmacist-only medicine.
Blackmores stated that it is aware of the proposed changes and will fully comply if the new regulations are officially enacted. “We will ensure full compliance with the TGA’s final decision,” the company added.
Meanwhile, Polaris Lawyers is investigating the possibility of a class-action lawsuit against Blackmores. One consumer, Dominic Noonan-O’Keefie, began taking Blackmores magnesium supplements in May 2023. He later reported experiencing extreme fatigue, muscle spasms, and loss of sensation. He was later diagnosed with neuropathy, allegedly linked to excessive vitamin B6 intake.
According to Polaris, the product Dominic consumed contained up to 29 times the recommended daily intake.
Polaris founder Nick Mann noted that his firm has received numerous similar reports.
“This is deeply concerning. Many over-the-counter vitamin products contain B6 at levels well above the safe limit,” said Mann.
Blackmores has stated it is conducting an internal investigation and has not yet provided further comment regarding the potential lawsuit. Meanwhile, the TGA is still finalizing its recommendations on the reclassification of vitamin B6 in supplements.
