BIGBANG at 19: Eight Moments That Prove Their Family-Like Bond
Light House Denver – BIGBANG officially marks its 19th remarkable year in the entertainment industry on Tuesday (Aug 19, 2025). Debuting in 2006, the group has become known not only for their hit songs but also for the strong bond among its members, often described as being like a real family.
For nearly two decades, G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, Daesung, and Seungri (who is no longer active) have proven that their relationship goes beyond mere colleagues. They have shared joy and hardship, overcome difficult times together, and still make time to meet despite their busy individual schedules. Here are eight moments that highlight how close BIGBANG truly is, like a family.
In a Talk Asia interview in 2016, G-Dragon said BIGBANG was already like family. Taeyang added that they feel happiest when they are together, even while working. Laughter often fills their time, even though they know serious responsibilities for the group’s future await them.

During a 2017 press conference, Taeyang emphasized that his solo work always remains connected to BIGBANG. To him, both individual and group projects are equally important. He shared that the success of G-Dragon’s solo album actually motivated him. For BIGBANG, solo activities don’t separate them, they enrich the group as a whole.
In a 2011 interview, Daesung once said that if BIGBANG were a real family, he would be “the uncle” who visits occasionally to bring joy. He described G-Dragon as fitting the role of “father” with his reliable and strict nature, while Taeyang could be the “mother” for his comforting presence. This dynamic shows how they complement one another.
BIGBANG also faced difficult times, including financial struggles early in their career. G-Dragon shared in 2015 that those hardships fueled their determination for long-term success. Taeyang added that despite the challenges, they enjoyed working hard because music itself gave them energy. T.O.P admitted that the members didn’t have many friends outside, so they relied on each other when sharing personal matters.
Rather than exchanging expensive gifts, the members prefer celebrating birthdays with simple moments together. In a 2015 interview with Vogue Korea, Daesung revealed his most memorable birthday was simply enjoying a cake given by the members. They even agreed not to exchange gifts anymore, realizing that what mattered most was spending time together.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. G-Dragon admitted in a 2011 interview that they often argued about trivial things like eating habits or folding clothes. Yet, these conflicts actually made their bond stronger. By resolving small disagreements, they learned to understand each other better, turning quarrels into a natural part of growing closer.
Although each member has become busy with individual careers, they still make an effort to meet. Taeyang shared in 2024 that a few months earlier, the members had gathered for a meal at his house. They also support each other’s solo activities, G-Dragon appeared at Taeyang’s concert, and Daesung joined G-Dragon’s stage. In March 2025, three of them even reunited on stage at G-Dragon’s solo concert, proving their solidarity endures.
On ZIP Daesung (2024), Taeyang revealed he grew especially close to Daesung during their military service, as Daesung opened up more than usual. This made G-Dragon a bit jealous, though he too felt deeply connected with Daesung.
Daesung explained that his politeness toward senior members like G-Dragon and Taeyang sometimes created the misunderstanding that he was distant. In reality, he considered the lessons, energy, and inspiration he received from them invaluable. These different dynamics, he said, only strengthened their overall bond.
For 19 years, BIGBANG has not only maintained their place in the music industry but also preserved a deep personal relationship. From their trainee days, they built a shared vision and developed strong trust.
This closeness makes them not only a legendary group but also a family that grew together under the spotlight. Even as their individual careers diverge, BIGBANG continues to prove that friendship and unity can withstand the test of time.
